May 18-24 marks EMS Week, when we recognize the essential work that EMS providers perform daily. As the country's largest EMS provider, the fire service is an essential component of modern emergency medicine. Fire-based EMS cares for any patient, any day, at any time. From providing lifesaving interventions right in patients’ homes to appropriately triaging patients to the best facility for their condition, firefighter/EMTs and firefighter paramedics are essential to emergency care. The IAFC, through the EMS Section, is proud to celebrate the hard work of our fire-based EMS providers this week and every day.
